Rachel Allison

I am a New Hampshire native who moved to Tennessee for college back in 2013. I have a degree in English Teaching 7-12 from Lipscomb University. In my spare time I like to spend sunny weekends out on Old Hickory Lake on our boat with our family and friends, workout at CrossFit Hendersonville, read non-fiction, drink wine, and bake.

Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I’ve been married to my husband Jonathan for 7 years, and we have two boys. AJ is 5 and Lincoln is 3.

Q: What is your main profession (or community involvement)?
I am a Co-owner and the Creative Director of Stay Positive News, LLC.

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current profession (or community involvement)?
Crazy story. I had been working in the construction industry as a project manager for over 5 years, and I had recently stepped away. I was hoping to find a new job related to my degree in English and was connected with my two (now) business partners by a mutual friend. They were looking to start a good news website and were hoping to find someone to run it. Things moved pretty quickly from that first meeting, and now Stay Positive News is growing daily throughout middle Tennessee.

Q: What do you enjoy most about what you do?
It feeds my creative passions and my love of people. I also really love the daily grind of building a new business from the ground up. It’s a wild and fun adventure!

Q: What other hobbies, passions or community projects take up your free time?
I mentioned some of this above, but my family attends Northfield Church, I love to go boating, do CrossFit, read, drink wine, bake, and hang out with friends.

Q: How long have you lived/worked in the Sumner County area and where are you from?
I lived in Sumner County for about 7 years now. I am originally from New Hampshire and lived in Davidson County my first few years in Tennessee.

Q: What was the happiest time in your adult life? Why?
Oh wow, what a tough question. I will give you several: The day I married Jonathan, the day AJ was born, the day Lincoln was born, and our ribbon cutting for Stay Positive News that just happened last week.

Q: What is a hurdle that you had to overcome in pursuing your goals/dreams? How did you overcome/ get through it?
When I walked away from my construction job, I had no back up plan and no other job lined up. This was not like me at all! I was pretty worried about how I’d do finding a new job, but I was fully employed 6 days later. That’s a God thing.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 3 to 5 years?
Still in Tennessee– and hopefully still in Gallatin in our house that we just built. Career wise, I believe Stay Positive News will be franchised by then, and my position will be completely different.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
My husband and I built our house ourselves. I project managed the entire thing, and we subbed out the majority of the work. It was super stressful but well worth it!

Q: What sets your community service project, career, or business apart from others?
The media has a bad reputation of promoting negative news stories. Why? Click bait. For some reason people are addicted to the negative. We are trying to change the narrative by writing and telling ONLY positive stories. Our goal is to spread positivity, foster community, and inspire change within middle Tennessee.

Q: Who has been the most influential person in your life? Why?
Both of my parents. They are completely different people with different approaches to life, but they both have loved and encouraged me in all of my ventures. They truly believe I can do anything (even when I don’t believe that about myself.) They are my biggest cheerleaders and the reasons why I strive to be successful.

Q: What do you value most and why?
I am an acts of service gal. I show my love by serving others, and I like to receive love that way too. To me, actions speak louder than words. That’s part of the reason why I want to build Stay Positive News to make more of an impact than just sharing good stories. I want to lead events to help others in need.

Q: Where do you find your motivation to do better? What/who inspires you?
See question about my parents 🙂

Have everyone go follow Stay Positive News!

Q: What is the best advice that you have ever received, or advice you would like to give our community?
You are only in control of two things: your actions and your attitude.

Q: What is something unique or your favorite thing about Sumner County?
I love the small town feel with all the convenience and how farmland intercepts suburbs. It’s unique and beautiful.
